The Rotary Club of Daniel Island is a Service and Fellowship organization focused on Building Better Communities and Changing Lives. The Club, founded in 2001, is a part of Rotary International, the world’s leading service organization with 1.2 million members worldwide.
The Mission of the Rotary Club of Daniel Island is:
M Membership – drives everything else
I Involved members – in service and fellowship
S Successful duck race – the means to our service end
S Service above self – measurable and sustainable
I Inform our constituents of our good works
O Organizational stability and stewardship
N Network – increase our impact through key alliances
You can find more information regarding these topics on this website, but here is a brief overview:
Membership – We are a by-invitation club but open to all people of good character who are seeking to serve others and be an active member of our organization. Please see the Membership tab for more information.
Involved Members – There are multiple avenues for members to be involved in our club and its good works – membership programs, the presentation of our weekly breakfast meetings, our annual duck race fundraiser, a host of local and international service projects, fellowship programs, and publicity initiatives.
Duck Race – We are proudly known as “the Duck Race Club” within Rotary and on Daniel Island. Each year, we and other participating Rotary Clubs, present a rubber duck race on The Wando River at the Children’s Park on Daniel Island. It is a family-oriented, fun event with an opportunity to win prizes. But, the real winners are the project and programs we support each year from this event. See the Charleston Duck Race tab for more information. All of the duck race proceeds are used for the service projects described next.
Service Projects – Rotary International’s motto is “Service Above Self.” Each year, we perform many local projects, focused primarily on the Daniel Island and Cainhoy/Huger peninsula areas, as well as international service projects. See the What We Do tab (under Our Club) for more details.
Inform our Constituents – We believe it is appropriate to share the story of the good works we do. We do this through this website, our Facebook page, press releases, and periodic ads. All of the funding for this comes from dues paid by members.
Organizational Stability and Stewardship – We believe we are prudent with the funds we raise and spend. The monies raised from fundraising (for service) are kept separately from the funds (dues) to administer the club. The presidency of the Club is rotated among members annually and we have a large and active board of members.
Network – We will team with other organizations to expand the impact of our mission. Other local Rotary clubs are invited to participate in our annual duck race, raising monies for those clubs’ service programs. We have teamed with other Daniel Island organization to help present or fund some service projects.
