Pat Ullman is a Chicago native and her background includes working for AT@T for over 17 years in various management positions before deciding to go back to law school and becoming an attorney. She is currently coach and sales lead for Own the Room, a global, world class training company, and an Executive Coach specializing in transition, leadership development and advancing women within organizations. She is also the CEO and Co-Founder of UP Business Communications, a NYC-based training company. Dr. Bill Greene is a retired physician who recently moved here from Myrtle Beach with his wife of 50 years, Mary Ellen. Through the encouragement of his wife (who is also a Rotarian at the Mt. Pleasant lunch club) Dr. Greene became a member of the Myrtle Beach Rotary Club in 2000, served as Club President for a term, and also served 3 years as the Rotary District Governor. That same year, he also committed to becoming a medical missionary to Haiti where he has performed surgery on 125 patients, and helped raise over 2 million dollars for the country which contributed to the completion of 2 major water/sanitation projects. These clean water projects have become a passion for Dr. Greene and we are very fortunate and excited he has brought that experience and knowledge to the Daniel Island Rotary Club with hopes he can help guide us with a potential new clean water project of our own. Welcome Dr. Greene!

At the July 26th meeting of the Daniel Island Rotary Club, Hank Hofford and Teddy Turner from Spirit of South Carolina, Inc, shared their inspiring story in their quest to help students develop leadership and enhance education, connect to the world, and reconnect with South Carolina’s history.

and Hank Hofford, also of Spirit of SC.

Spirit of SC, a 140-ft. two-masted topsail schooner, honors Charleston’s once booming, but largely forgotten shipbuilding industry. The frames, planks and interior finish were shaped from reclaimed, South Carolina Live Oak, Cypress and Long Leaf Yellow Pine. Extensive varnish work showcases the raw beauty of these native woods and the fine craftsmanship joining it all together.

The educational mission of Spirit is offering unique opportunities for students focusing on history, math, science and literature of South Carolina’s water resources and encouraging personal responsibility, contribution to community and stewardship of environment.

The Rotary Club of Daniel Island was excited to welcome Mr. Hofford and Mr. Turner to tell Spirit’s story and we look forward to supporting their very worthwhile mission!
