DI Rotarians Volunteering with YEScarolina2

HANDS ON PROJECT: Daniel Island Rotarians Steve Slifer, Jim White, and Peter Mumola served as judges for a recent business plan competition at Bishop England High School in cooperation with YEScarolina Youth Entrepreneurship in South Carolina. Rotary Club of Daniel Island also contributed $500 for cash prizes. More Pictures available here.

STORY UPDATE:

Congratulations to Jasmine Adams and Harrison Griffith, both from Bishop England HS, on their success at the statewide business plan competition held recently at the College of Charleston. With her second place finish, Jasmine will move on to the NFTE Nation Business Plan Event in New York City later this summer!

Jonathan Green, renowned artist famous for his colorful imagery of the Lowcountry rice culture, spoke to the Rotary Club of Daniel Island at their “Bring Your Spouse to Rotary” meeting. Jonathan spoke about his life, his work, and his passion for preserving the memory of what was accomplished by African workers who changed the landscape and economy of South Carolina. He also talked about his commission to produce costumes and sets for the upcoming Spoleto Festival production of Porgy and Bess. The Rotary Club of Daniel Island sponsors (with the Daniel Island Community Fund, Business Association, and Club) a Speakers Series open to the entire community. The speaker September 9, 2015 was Anita Zucker, CEO of The InterTech Group and well-know community volunteer and philanthropist. EasterMealsThe Rotary Club of Daniel Island delivered 140 Easter meals to the Cainhoy Community Center for families most in need in the Cainhoy/Huger area. 5_DSC_1397-XLPat Richards, a member of the Daniel Island Rotary Club and Literacy Chair for Rotary District 7770, was recognized by District Governor Jimmie Williamson at the recent district conference with the Rotary Club Builder Award. Pat led the district wide literacy project this year which culminated in hundreds of books being boxed up at the conference thanks to book drives at many District 7770 Rotary Clubs.
