About the event
May 14 (Blackbaud) -- Dr. James Elsey, Treasurer, Board of Directors of Fisher House Charleston. Dr. Elsey is a lecturer and mentor in the Department of Surgery at MUSC. There are 75,000 Veterans and active military in the 22 coastal counties in S.C. and Georgia. Due to high hotel room prices in Charleston, up to 25% of treated veterans had family members sleeping in their hotel room or in their vehicle. Fisher house makes sure that the families of our heroes have a place to stay, and provides comfort and care while their loved ones receive medical care at the Ralph Johnson VA Medical Center. Dr. Elsey is a retired vascular surgeon. He had does done a series of videos regarding our health care system and why it is so broken (see second reference below). He is also the Treasurer of the Friends of Fisher House.
