About the event
February 12 (DI Club) -- Greg Brainerd, Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. About a year after sailing across the Atlantic Ocean with his daughter, Greg set out in early December to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania with his son. At 19,341 feet it is highest mountain in Africa and is one of the Seven Summits which makes Kilimanjaro a major hiking and climbing destination. It doesn’t require technical climbing skills, ropes, ice axes, harnesses, or other specialized equipment. The greatest challenge for most climbers is the altitude which should not be taken lightly. Walking 6-8 miles daily and, on the summit night, 10-15 miles, much of it uphill, climbers will not succeed without proper preparation for dealing with the altitude. Kudos to Greg for successfully completing this latest adventure. Maybe he will provide us with hints of what is next on his bucket list.
